The 4th of July is a big deal in the small island community of Bainbridge, Washington. A show, that this year, nine days before the big event, went up in smoke.
All the fireworks for Bainbridge's celebration, and the neighboring town of Poulsbo, were packed away in a storage container at a nearby wrecking yard.
Well, they WERE until the owner of said wrecking yard decided to go outside and try his new rifle. One of the shots ricocheted off the junker he was practicing on and struck the container that contained $80,000 worth of fireworks.
The explosion was so big it propelled the container 20 feet in the air, left a crater in the ground and could be felt over a mile away. One women said it shook her out of bed.
