Eric Church is known for rolling with the punches and making sure the show goes on. Closing out WE Fest in 2024, Eric played through an illness he joked came from his “walking talking petri dishes” that were his kids and still gave it his all until his voice completely gave out.
Now it was an injury that tried to sideline The Chief.
As he walked out on stage in Jacksonville, Florida last Friday night, Eric sported the fashionable medical walking boot. As usual, he had no problem explaining the story of walking up and forgetting there was a suitcase at the end of the bed. Suitcase 1, Foot 0.
In Eric’s own words: “I have made it 44 tour dates unscathed. And 48 hours ago – I wish I could give you a better story – I jumped out of bed, I forgot about a suitcase at the end of the bed, and I kicked the sh** out of that suitcase, and I broke my foot. So tonight, what I lack in mobility, I’m gonna make up in passion.”
Nevertheless, he got through 29 songs that night of the Free The Machine Tour- even though there was less running round on stage than usual- and even made a joke about his situation while singing, fittingly, These Boots.
