And of course, we can blame TikTok for a new trend that has people showing up to the airport late- on purpose- and then missing their flights.
It’s called Airport Theory, and it suggests that you need to arrive to the airport just 15 minutes before your flight- giving you enough time to get through security and to get to your gate- instead of the whole “get there 2-3 hours before your flight” conventional wisdom that we have all followed.
Some TikTokers have had success with this- with one getting through security, getting selected for a random search, taking one of those golf carts to her gate, and arriving as it was “just now boarding”. Others… admit that they stopped for coffee in the concourse and took their time- causing them to miss their flight.
Perhaps one of the key variables here is which airport you are flying out of. One of the best parts about Hector International here in Fargo is that you can usually get away with getting to the airport a little closer to boarding time. MSP, or the other major airports in New York, LA, Chicago, or Denver? Yeah… Might not want to test Airport Theory.
Plus… For those of us of age… That tasty, tasty airport beer to really kick off your vaycay! IYKYK.
