On August 27, 2025, a person opened fire on the Annunciation Catholic School in South Minneapolis. Two children were killed, and 18 others were critically injured and taken to Hennepin Healthcare (HCMC) for treatment. As of September 1, the victim count has increased to 23, as bullet fragments have been found in more kids, requiring surgery. All remaining victims are expected to survive. As Minnesota works to heal from this tragedy, funds have been set up to support the victims. The organizations we are sharing have been verified by officials and local media in the Twin Cities.
The City of Minneapolis and the Minneapolis Foundation have set up a text-to-donate line. Those wishing to donate can text ACF1 to 41444. The city says that they will work with the Annunciation Church in the coming days and weeks to determine how to best distribute the funds raised. The Catholic Community Foundation of Minnesota has created the Annunciation Hope and Healing Fund, which will provide monetary help to the Church of the Annunciation. Not only will the money help those affected by the shooting, but it will also help with the needs of both the church and school. The Uvalde Foundation For Kids has set up a national fund to provide support to victims of the Annunciation Church. All funds raised will go towards funeral expenses, memorials, and other expenses for the families. Be cautious of GoFundMe campaigns or other social media campaigns that have not been verified as they may be scams, or not directly support those affected by the shootings.
There are also ways to support the Hennepin Healthcare (HCMC) staff who have been caring for the victims. HCMC is Minnesota’s only Safety Net Hospital, meaning that all patients are cared for regardless of their ability to pay.
Donate A Cart of refreshments to the Hennepin Healthcare team. The carts are rotated between the emergency, EMS, and inpatient hospital teams.
Contribute to the hospital wish list to help Child Life specialists ensure there are games, movies, art supplies, puzzles, and more for pediatric patients
